This Digital Toolkit will provide you with tips on using a structured literacy approach in a te reo Māori setting. Aimed mainly at teachers, but useful for parents as well. It covers:

  • the need to build strong relationships with learners and their whānau;

  • the connections between a child’s health, housing or experience of marginalisation and their education;

  • a Principal’s journey to implementing structured literacy at his dual medium school and how they have closed the achievement gap for Maori;

  • more detail on what a structured literacy approach for hanganga reo matatini looks like including a copy of a sample scope and sequence; and

  • pointers on how to approach assessment.

    You will receive a link to download a 5 page summary of the discussion and within that links to:

  1. a 70 minute recording of our webinar with our three speakers.

  2. a copy of the slides used in the webinar.

  3. a PDF with full notes from the webinar (25 pages)
