Two-day Structured Literacy Workshop, Auckland (GEM Literacy)

Over two days attendees will unpack “The Why” and “The How” of a Structured Literacy approach. 

  • Unpack how the brain learns to read

  • Understand the mental demands of learning to read and write

  • Know the principles and key components of a Structured Literacy approach

  • Know that biliteracy/multilingualism is an asset and can support the learning of speech sounds in English

  • Know some of the key similarities and differences between the speech sounds of Te Reo Māori, Samoan and Tongan

  • Apply this approach in a Junior and Middle School Classroom

  • Plan for independent and small group activities

For: Teachers, Leaders, Literacy Leaders, Learning/Teaching Assistants, RTLBs, RTLits, Outreach Teachers, Home School Educators etc. 

When: Term 3 Week 7 Thursday 5 and Friday 6 September 2024 

Time: 9:15am -2:30pm

Venue: Māngere East School Whānau Centre, MĀNGERE EAST PRIMARY SCHOOL, 21 Yates Road, Māngere East, Auckland 2024. Please park behind the school on Ferguson Street.

Price: $485 + GST for both days. Morning Tea, Lunch and Workbook are all included. 

Please note: Bookings are nonrefundable although they can be transferred to a new attendee or workshop.  Under unavoidable circumstances, GEM Literacy may need to reschedule this workshop or transfer it to online delivery.
