Literacy crisis in NZ secondary schools

📢 New Report Reveals Literacy Crisis in NZ Secondary Schools — Call to Action Issued 📘

We're proud to share our latest survey report capturing powerful feedback from educators and support staff across 29 diverse secondary schools nationwide. The findings highlight critical challenges facing schools as they strive to support students with low literacy—especially in the wake of new gatekeeper assessments and shifting curriculum demands.

💬 “We feel invisible and abandoned...”
💬 “High stress... we simply can't operate like this long term...”
These voices from principals and teachers around Aotearoa speak volumes about the urgency of the situation.

🛑 Our Call to Action lays out a path over the next 5–6 years to prioritise secondary literacy and unlock student success right across the Curriculum. The report has been sent to the Ministry of Education, and we’re working on organising a roundtable with them and participating educators next month.
